You can set up [Sources](/v2/docs/sources) in Bobsled to access the data you want to send to a consumer via a [Share](/v2/docs/share-list-overview) or build [Sledhouse Tables](/v2/docs/sledhouse-tables-1) and define [Data Products](/v2/docs/data-products). > [!NOTE] > **NOTE:** What you can see and do will differ based on your [role and permissions](/v2/docs/users-and-roles). --- ## Overview ![](https://cdn.document360.io/87a415ff-4d6a-4c0c-adbb-26c563a2d9a8/Images/Documentation/source.png) By default, the **Data sources** page allows you to view: - **Name:** An internal-only name given to a data source - **Source:** The product source (e.g., Amazon S3, Snowflake, etc.) - **Region:** The cloud platform’s region - **Status:** Information at a glance about the status of the data source - **Created by:** Who is the author of the connection, user, or programmatic - **Test connection**: An ad hoc action that performs a test and checks the state of the connection - **More options** (ellipsis icon): - **View**: Read-only details about the data source - **Edit**: Make changes to the source connection details - **Delete**: Remove the connection from Bobsled - `Source ID` Unique identifier for that Source. Check our [API documentation ↗](https://api.bobsled.co/reference/getting-started) for more information on how to use it to create and manage Shares programmatically. > [!NOTE] > **TIP:** Bobsled offers the feature to configure which columns are available for you to use. You can also quickly and easily filter the table headers to find information you’re looking for. Simply **hover the table column** you’d like to filter, click on the **more** icon and select **Filter**. --- ### Data source status Bobsled provides information at a glance about your source connection—note that these may not all be observed, depending on your specific [Source](/v2/docs/sources). These are organized in the following manner: - **Created** (gray): The source connection has been created in Bobsled—the setup is incomplete, or there is a grace period before the next status - **Setting up** (blue): The initial connection to a given source - **Indexing** (blue): Currently indexing data. - **Connected** (green): The data source is connected without errors, and is available to be selected and used in a given share - **Error** (red): There is an issue with the connection or credentials regarding this source connection. > [!NOTE] > **TIP:** The ‘**Error**’ state can be troubleshooted by **clicking** on the **Test connection** button. Once it performs the test, it will relay information about the source error. If the problem persists, reach out to your account team to assist you. --- ### Create a new data source connection 1. From the side panel, click **Data sources**, and click the **Add source** button. 2. Enter a human-readable **name**, choose your **product**, cloud platform (if applicable), **region,** and select **continue** 3. Provide the information required—follow our [source setup guides](/v2/docs/sources) for more in-depth details 4. Once all the information has been added and no errors are observed, click **save** Once your data source is in the **Active** state, you can use it to create a [Share](/v2/docs/create-and-manage-a-share) and a [Data transfer](/v2/docs/transferring-data). --- ### Troubleshooting a data source When a connection to a data source transfer fails, Bobsled will relay details about the **error** either immediately or by clicking the **test connection** button. These details will reiterate at what step in your source connection has failed. Check the [Sources](/v2/docs/sources) setup guides for more details. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/87a415ff-4d6a-4c0c-adbb-26c563a2d9a8/Images/Documentation/bad source.png) > [!NOTE] > **TIP:** If the trouble persists, please reach out to your account team so they can assist you. --- ### View source connection To view the contents of a source connection without making any changes, 1.
